About us
Iota Finance is a modern, fully remote accounting and tax firm for small businesses, venture-backed startups and real estate investors. "Not Your Father's Accountant." We're their back-office finance team: books, monthly closes, tax returns, payroll and advisory. About half the team is in the US and half in the Philippines. We're AI-forward and building our own software rather than bolting technology onto an old practice.
The role
We're hiring a Senior Accountant to take new clients from first access to a stable monthly close, own our real estate and intercompany books, and share book reviews with our Accounting Manager. You'll turn messy books into clean, tax-ready ones and leave behind an SOP so our bookkeepers can run them.
Location and hours: Remote from the Philippines, full-time, 8 PM to 5 AM PH to overlap US business hours.
Reports to: Accounting Manager.
What you'll do
Onboard and clean up new clients
- Coordinate client access setup so catch-up can start quickly.
- Run catch-up and cleanup work and raise blockers to the Accounting Manager the day they appear.
- Write an SOP for each new client and hand it to the bookkeepers within two months.
Own the real estate and intercompany books
- Close real estate and intercompany clients within 10 business days of month-end.
- Book property purchases, sales and refis, and keep property and loan schedules current.
- Reconcile REI software (e.g., Stessa) to the books and explain every intercompany and owner entry.
- Get 2026 books tax-ready before the tax team starts, and prepare opening 2027 equity balances.
Review and keep compliance on time
- Take 30% of book reviews against our 10-Point Review Standard.
- Prepare sales tax forms for review by the 12th business day of each month.
- Review payroll and available cash before every run.
- Run 1099s: chase W-9s from December, prepare 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC for review by mid-January, file by January 31.
And flag early
- Flag unclear treatment with a recommendation instead of guessing, and work with our Accounting and Tax Managers on process improvements.
What you'll need
- An accounting degree. CPA preferred, or an equivalent certification.
- 3 to 5 years of US GAAP experience.
- Mastery of QuickBooks Online and strong Excel.
- Experience onboarding new clients: bank access, catch-up and cleanup.
- Intercompany accounting and REI software experience (e.g., Stessa).
- 1099 preparation: W-9 collection, vendor review, 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC.
- Clear written English and strong collaboration skills.
- Your own computer and reliable internet, and full-time availability for the 8 PM to 5 AM PH shift.
What sets you apart
- US real estate clients: acquisitions, refis and property-level reporting.
- Sales tax form preparation.
- Working knowledge of payroll and payroll tax.
- You've reviewed other accountants' work and helped them make fewer errors.
- Familiarity with TaxDome or Gusto.
What success looks like
- Day 30: set up in TaxDome, QuickBooks Online and Gusto; first client underway from onboarding to first close; sales tax forms on time; shadowed a real estate close.
- Day 60: the backlog of property purchases, sales and refis is booked; one onboarding running with its SOP drafted.
- Day 90: real estate closes done within 10 business days; handling 30% of book reviews; first onboarded client handed to the bookkeepers.
How we hire
A conversation with our Managing Partner, then a technical assessment built from real work (a messy-books cleanup, an intercompany reconciliation, a sales tax reconciliation and a payroll cash review), then reference checks and an offer.
Why Iota
We built the firm we'd want to work at: modern, remote and allergic to the grind culture that burns good accountants out. You'll work on real books for founders, operators and real estate investors, alongside a team that cares about doing it well and has each other's backs.
- Remote-first. Work from home on your own setup.
- Paid holidays and PTO, and we expect you to use them.
- Seasonal branded gear.
- Real investment in your growth: Intuit ProAdvisor certification, software training and mentorship.
- A firm that's building, not coasting. You'll help shape how a modern, AI-forward firm runs.
